The Young Pavlova by E.M. Almedingen, illustrated by Sofia Albee, introduction by Katya Galitzine
Originally published in 1960, this delightful telling of the childhood of ballerina Anna Pavlova is reissued by Fontanka and the Galitzine Memorial Fund as the first of a series of books for children by E.M. Almedingen, author of Little Katia and other titles, many of them based on the author's own family history and drawing on her experience growing up in Petrograd through the First World War and Revolution.

The Magic Ring is a delightful transadaptation of a Slavic folk tale, inspired by a dialect version by Boris Shergin. With great invention and humour, the story evokes the spirit of the original, introducing the reader to new words (and worlds) while telling the twisting and turning tale of Vanya and his talking animals.
