With this adaptation in rhyme of a well-known Russian folk tale, Sian Valvis traces the adventures of the kolobok, or bun, as he encounters and outwits various animals along his way - until he meets the wily fox. The book is beautifully illustrated by Dovile Ciapaite.
With echoes of The Gingerbread Man, Kolobok's repeated phrases and song make it the perfect book for children from when are they first read to – and a book that adults will enjoy reading to them over and again – but also for early readers.

The latest addition to my 2-year-old's Anglo-Russian library is a contemporary adaptation of the famous Russian folk tale Kolobok. The first time my husband read it to my son I could hear him gasp from the other room. For him it is like a thriller. Will Kolobok ever be free? Will he survive? Kolobok, a Russian bun on the run, has taken a proud place amongst other favourites, knocking off Peppa Pig’s Royal Party from its top spot (a true victory!)

As I read Kolobok: A Russian bun on the run, Siân Valvis’s adaptation of a classic Slavic folktale, with my five-year-old daughter, we marvelled at the striking, block-printed illustrations and giggled at the jaunty, rhyming verse.
